Lions Compete in Mercyhurst Invitational; Fall Short Against Mercyhurst and Gannon
The Penn State Behrend men's water polo team competed in the Mercyhurst Invitational this weekend where they came up short in matches against Mercyhurst and Gannon.
ERIE, Pa – The Penn State Behrend men's water polo team competed in the Mercyhurst Invitational this weekend where they came up short in matches against Mercyhurst and Gannon.
The Lions (0-5) dropped their first match of the day to Mercyhurst (3-1) by a score of 14-8. Isaak Hatopp (Saline MI/Saline) led the way for Behrend, recording four goals, four drawn ejections, and four steals. Andre Sardaryzadeh (Murrieta, CA/Elsinore) added to the Lion's effort, adding three goals and three drawn ejections. Greg Levit (Bayonne, France/Suncoast) added a goal and Nick Catanzarite (Columbus, OH/Worthinton Kilbourne) recorded six saves.
In game two, Hatopp and Sardaryzadeh provided Behrend's offense, scoring three goals apiece, but the Lions still fell short to Gannon (4-3),16-6. Hatopp also added three steals and an assist. Cameron Makin (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) drew three ejections, giving Behrend a great chance with a man up. Catanzarite added four saves against the Golden Knights.
The Lions will be back in action Saturday, September 17th when they travel to New London, Connecticut for a four-game set. Game one will begin at 8:30 a.m. when they take on Connecticut College.
