Lions Compete in Gary Troyer Tournament

CLAREMONT, Ca – The Penn State Behrend men's water polo team traveled across the country to compete in the Gary Troyer Tournament this weekend in Claremont, California.

The Lions (0-13) dropped a pair of hard-fought games to CalTech and Occidental. Andre Sardaryzadeh (Murrieta, CA/Elsinore) led the way for Behrend, scoring four goals on the day. Isaak Hatopp (Saline, MI/Saline) added three goals.

In game one, CalTech (2-8) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before Cameron Makin (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) got the Lions on the board. Behrend would win the third period, scoring five goals and making the score 11-6 heading into the fourth quarter. Sardaryzadeh and Hatopp each scoring two in the period. Troy Valkusky (Drifton, PA/Hazelton) scored his lone goal of the game in the fourth. The Lions fell by a final score of 15-7.

In game two, Behrend took on Occidental, falling by a score of 17-4. The Tigers (3-9) quickly put the game out of reach when they started by going on a 11-0 run. It wasn't until the third quarter when Makin found the back of the net for the first Behrend goal. Sardaryzadeh added two goals in the game while Hatopp contributed one.

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow for the final two games of the tournament. Game one will begin at 2:45 p.m. followed by the second at 7:45 p.m.
