Lions Wrap Up Gary Troyer Tournament

CLAREMONT, Ca - The Penn State Behrend men's water polo team wrapped up competition in the Gary Troyer Tournament, co-hosted by Clarement-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer, Saturday afternoon, falling to Chapman and 12th ranked UC San Diego.

The Lions (0-15) started the day against UC San Diego (9-5), falling by a score of 24-4. Behrend struggled to get the offense rolling agaisnt the 12th ranked Tritons. UCSD started the game on a 14-1 run in the first half. Sardaryzadeh scored the lone first-half goal. Makin added two goals in the match while Hatopp added one.

In game two, the Lions took on Chapman (2-9), falling by a score of 21-7. Isaak Hatopp (Saline, MI/Saline) scored a pair of back-to-back goals in the first quarter to tie the game at two apiece. Cameron Makin (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) scored his lone goal of the game in the second quarter but, the Panthers added six goals in the second quarter to take a 12-4 lead into the half

The second half was dominated by Chapman, outscoring Behrend 9-3. Andre Sardaryzadeh (Murrieta, CA/Elsinore) added two goals to the Lions' effort. Hatopp finished the game with four goals.

Joe Walsh (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) compiled 31 saves on the weekend. Hattop was the Lions high-scorer with eight goals. Sardaryzadeh added seven goals and Makin scored five.

Behrend will be back in action Saturday, October 15 when they travel to Washington, PA for the CWPA Division III Regional. Game one will begin at 5 p.m.
