Men's Water Polo Falls in Two Tough Games

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's water polo team played two tough matches this weekend, hosting Mercyhurst and traveling to Gannon.

The Lions (3-4) fell in their first match to Mercyhurst (5-5) 18-6. Leading the way for Behrend was Grant Garcia (Kingsburg, CA / Kingsburg) and Troy Valkusky (Drifton, PA/Hazleton) who scored two goals each. Both of Valkusky's goals came in the third quarter.

Freshman Davis Kraft (Houston, TX/Langham Creek) tallied two steals and two drawn kick-outs while Ben Katsarsky (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) drew a kick-out and a penalty shot.

Matt Olimski (San Diego, CA/Otay Ranch) and Bryce Barnes (Gig Harbor, WA/Gig Harbor) both made five saves in the game.

Behrend battled through its next match against Gannon, but were dropped by the score of 16-6. Garcia added two more goals on the weekend.

Garica notched both of his goals in the second quarter and Kyle Frerichs (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) recorded three steals. Olimski added six more saves in the game.

Behrend is back in action October 6th when they take on Cal Lutheran at 1:30 p.m. and Cal Tech at 6:30 p.m.
