Lions Compete at Gary Troyer Tournament

CLAREMONT, Ca. – The Penn State Behrend men's water polo team traveled to the west coast to compete in the Gary Troyer Tournament this weekend. They fell to Cal Lutheran and Caltech 21-9 and 12-10 respectively in the first two games of the tournament Friday.

In the Lion's (2-6) opening tournament match against Cal Lutheran, goal scoring was hard to come by. The Kingsmen (5-7) came out firing to take an 11-2 lead in the first half. The Lions settled down and found a groove to help score seven second half goals.

Isaak Hatopp (Saline, MI/Saline) led the way for Behrend notching two second-half goals while also adding two drawn kick outs and a drawn penalty shot.

Cameron Makin (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) tallied two drawn kick outs for the Lions while Matt Olimski (San Diego, CA/Otay Ranch) made six saves and also recorded a steal.

Caltech was the Lion's second match of the day on Friday where they battled in a close game, falling 12-10. Grant Garcia (Kingsburg, CA/Kingsburg) set the charge for the Lions generating four steals, three goals, and two drawn kick outs.

Hatopp continued his goal scoring on Friday by notching three more goals while also adding three steals and an assist. Mark Ercolani (North Wales, PA/North Penn) contributed by dishing out three assists throughout the game.

Olimski accumulated eight saves in the games and recorded three steals to keep Behrend in the game.

Behrend is back in action tomorrow to take on Fresno Pacific at 12:15 p.m. and Occidental at 7:45 p.m.
