Men's Water Polo Ends the Weekend With a Win

CLAREMONT, Ca – The Penn State Behrend men's water polo team ended the weekend by going 1-1 on the final day in the Gary Troyer Tournament Saturday afternoon. Dropping the first game to Fresno Pacific, but defeated Occidental in game two on Saturday night.

The Lions (3-7) started the day against Fresno Pacific (4-10), falling by a score of 16-5. Behrend struggled to get the offense rolling against the Sunbirds. Grant Garcia (Kingsburg, CA/Kingsburg) notched three steals while also scoring two goals.

Matt Olimski (San Diego, CA/Otay Ranch) made nine saves and two saves. Bryce Barnes (Gig Harbor, WA/Gig Harbor), Davis Kraft (Houston, TX/Langham Creek), and Greg Kinzler (Plum, PA/Agra Charter Cyber School) all recorded two steals a piece in the tough loss.

In game two, the Lions came out on top in the nail-biter against Occidental (0-18) by defeating them 8-7. Garcia led Behrend by scoring a pair of goals, creating two drawn kick outs, and dishing out an assist in the win. Kinzler's scored two goals while also adding a steal and a field block against the Tigers.

On the defensive side, Andre Saradaryzadeh (Murrieta, CA/Elsinore) and Kyle Frerichs (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) were instrumental in helping the Lion's pick up their third win of the season. Saradaryzadeh recorded four steals, an assist, and a field block while Frerichs added a pair of field blocks and steals.

Bruce Bursiek (Houston, TX/Cy-Fair High School) contributed to Behrend's win by scoring two goals and notching a steal.

Goalkeeper Olimski compiled 18 more saves on the weekend, and generated three steals and an assist.

Behrend will be back in action Saturday, October 14 where they will battle in the DIII Eastern Championships.
