Lions Compete at MPSF Tournament

PALO ALTO, Ca. – The Penn State Behrend men's water polo team competed in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championship tournament on Friday, dropping a pair of games to USC and Stanford.

In game one of the opening round of the tournament, USC (24-3) scored 16 first-half goals to defeat the Lions (6-14) 17-2. Ten different Trojans players recorded goals in the game and were led by Sam Slobodien who scored four in the second quarter.

Greg Kinzler (Plum, PA/Agra Charter Cyber School) tallied a goal in the first and had two steals for Behrend. Grant Garcia (Kingsburg, CA/Kingsburg) notched the second goal in the fourth quarter while also adding an assist in the game. Matt Olimski (San Diego, CA/Otay Ranch) recorded nine saves and a steal.


The Lions struggled to find the offense in game two, falling 15-0 to Stanford (18-4). Six Trojans scored in the game. Four Cardinal players each tallied two goals apiece, Blake Parrish and Cody Smith led Stanford by notching two each in the first quarter of the game.

Olimski added six saves and four steals in the match. Isaak Hatopp (Saline, MI/Saline) picked up two steals while Kinzler, Andre Sardaryzadeh (Murrieta, CA/Elsinore), and Cameron Makin (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) each tallied one.

Behrend will face California at noon PST tomorrow.
