Lions Finish 2nd at AMCC Championships
The Penn State Behrend men's cross country team placed five runners in the top 10 to finish 11 points behind Franciscan and take second place at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships on Saturday.
GRAND ISLAND, NY - The Penn State Behrend men's cross country team placed five runners in the top 10 to finish 11 points behind Franciscan and take second place at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships on Saturday at Beaver Isle State Park hosted by Medaille.
The Lions and Barons dominated the the 8K race by taking home the top 15 spots.
Sophomore Denis Lydon (Plum, PA/Plum) paced Behrend with a time of 28:22 to take fourth place. Runners two through five were separated by just 11 seconds.
Michael Smolinski (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) finished in sixth place with a time of 28:38. Two first-year runners contributed strong times for Behrend. Jason Zabelsky (North Huntingdon, PA/Norwin) and Billy Cvecko (Erie, PA/McDowell) placed seventh and eighth respectively. Zabelsky clocked in at 29:06 with Cvecko close behind at 29:23.
Senior Carl Kallgren (Erie, PA/McDowell) capped off his AMCC career with a ninth place finish and a time of 29:23. Alex Myers (Oakmont, PA/Riverview) rounded out the top five for the Lions with a 10th place finish after coming in at 29:35.
Andrew Mason (Wilmington, DE/Concord) finished with a time under 31 minutes to make the make the All-Conference team with the other six Behrend runners.
Behrend will be back in action on November 12th for the NCAA Regionals in Center Valley, PA. Start time is 11 a.m.
