Men's Cross Country Competes at NCAA Regionals

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend men's cross country team finished 19th out of 54 teams at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional on Saturday afternoon held at Lehigh University.

Johns Hopkins won the regional with having three runners in the Top 10, while Dickinson placed second and Haverford ran to a third-place finish. Senior Bobby Over of Allegheny won the individual race with a time of 24:29.

Denis Lydon (Plum, PA/Plum) took about 30 seconds off his time from last year, finishing the 8K race in 26:48 for 81st place overall out of 355 runners.  

Second on the team and 96th overall was Michael Smolinski (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) was 13 seconds behind Lydon. The senior crossed the line in 26:54.

Freshman Jacob Deweese (Freedom, PA/Freedom), participating in his first regional meet, tallied a time of 27:18 for 130th place. Sophomores Devin Beggs (Franklin, PA/Franklin) and Josh Natalie (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) were fourth and fifth on the team, respectively. Beggs ran in 27:24 for 138th place and Natalie was eight seconds away with a time of 27:31 for 147thoverall.

Tyler Yost (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) and Matt McWilliams (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) completed Lions top seven runners. Yost clocked in at 28:11 for 195th and Matt McWilliams (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) tallied a time of 28:35 (212th).
