The Behrend Lions entered the day alone in first place in the
AMCC with a perfect 9-0 conference record and hosting a La Roche
team that carried an 8-4 AMCC mark. Behrend earned a 3-0
victory in game one and would earn the sweep by taking a 5-0 win in
game two.
In the first game of the day, Behrend senior pitcher Julie Koman
(McKees Rocks/Montour) threw a complete game four-hit shutout, for
her tenth win of the season. In the top of the second after a La
Roche double and a walk Nikki Kaschauer (South
Park/South Park) made a nice defensive play to end the threat and
keep the Redhawks off of the scoreboard.
La Roche would threaten again with one out in the top of the fourth
with runners on first and second when Sydnie Martin singled to
right field. Nicole Ganster (Trafford/Penn-Trafford) came up
throwing to the plate and cut down the runner. Koman pitched
out of the jam to keep the game scoreless.
The Behrend Lions would get on the board in the bottom of the
fifth. Amy Greene (Erie/Strong Vincent) reached second on an
error by the right fielder. Maddie Wieser's (Erie/Collegiate
Academy) sacrifice got Greene to third before Lindsay Baughman
(Warren/Warren) singled in Greene to put the blue and white up
1-0. The Behrend Lions would tack on some insurance runs in
the bottom of the sixth. The blue and white ended up scoring
three runs on six hits and Greene finished 2-for-3 with a double
and a run scored.
The Behrend Lions would get win number 22 on the year behind the pitching of Emma Hahn (Smethport/Smethport). Hahn, who picked up her eighth win, struck out five and gave up two hits for the complete game shutout.
The blue and white started the scoring in the first getting one
run on two hits. Allison Babish (Coraopolis/Montour) would
single up the middle and steal second base. With two outs and
runners on first and third Rachelle Lawrence (Warren
Center/Northeast Bradford) singled in Babish for the first run of
the game. Behrend added a run in the third and fifth innings
and two in the sixth to seal the victory for the Behrend Lions
(22-5, 11-0).
Babish would go 2-for-4 with two runs scored in game two.
Kaschauer went 3-for-4 to add to the teams 11 hits. Lawrence
would also go 3-for-4 while driving in three
runners.
The blue and white will next face Frostburg State on Sunday, April
19 at home in 1:00 p.m. AMCC doubleheader.
