The Behrend Lions entered the day looking to get their 20th win
of the season against the Westminster Titans and keep a 14-game
win-streak alive on April 14 at the Behrend Softball Field. The
blue and white would get win number 20 on the season winning the
first game 1-0, but had their win streak snapped with a 5-2 loss in
game two.
In game one Julie Koman (McKees Rocks, PA/Montour)
would pitch out of trouble in the top of the fourth for the Behrend
Lions after two Westminster hits would put runners on first and
third. Koman would get a ground ball to end the inning and the
Westminster rally.
The blue and white loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth on
three consecutive hits with two outs. Nikki Kaschauer (South Park,
PA/South Park) then stepped to the plate and knocked in Katie
Whitby (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) with a drive up the middle. One run was
enough for the Behrend Lions as Koman would shut down the Titans.
Koman threw a complete game two hitter with one walk and seven
strikeouts.
Kaschauer went 2-for-3 in game one with the lone RBI. Ashley Gruber
(Burton, OH/Berkshire) smacked the lone extra base hit for the blue
and white while going 2-for-3. Lia Sorce (Glenshaw, PA/Shaler) also
added two hits for the Behrend Lions.
In game two the Behrend Lions would load the bases in the bottom of
the second with one out before the Titans pitcher would be able to
get a strike out and a fly out to end the inning.
Westminster batter Erica Kimmick blasted a homerun to put the
Titans up 1-0. The lead was shortlived as Kaschauer slugged
her own solo homerun in the bottom of the third to tie the game at
1-1. The game remained tied until the top of the sixth when
Westminster scored four runs, including a 3-RBI double from
pinch-hitter Kelly Fee. The blue and white would get one run
out of a seventh-inning rally but could get no closer and fell
5-2
The blue and white will next host the La Roche Redhawks on
Saturday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m. in an AMCC doubleheader and then
face Frostburg State on Sunday, April 19 at home at 1:00 p.m.
