The # 1 Penn State Behrend Lions took on the # 4 Pitt-Greensburg
Bobcats in the final game on day one. The blue and white
jumped on the Bobcats in the first as Ashley Gruber doubled to
score Allison Babish. Nikki Kaschauer made it a two run game
with a triple that drove in Gruber. Rachelle Lawrence singled
to right center to score Kaschauer and give the Behrend Lions a
three run lead. The blue and white added two more runs in the
inning to put the tournament hosts up 5-0.
Five runs was more than enough for senior pitcher Julie
Koman. Koman took a perfect game into the sixth before
Pitt-Greensburg's Lindsay Littler drove a ball through the left
side just past a diving Lawrence to break up the perfect
game. Koman through her eleventh complete game of the year
while it was her third shutout. She allowed only one hit and
struck out four to improve to 15-1 on the year. Lia Sorce was
3-for-3 and Babish went 2-for-4 as five different Behrend players
scored a run.
Pitt-Greensburg will play Frostburg State in the second game on
Saturday (Tournament Game 6), while Behrend plays Mt. Aloysius in
Tournament Game 8.
