Behrend Hosts AMCC Softball Tournament: Day Two Recap

The top two seeds from the regular season faced off in game eight of the tournament. Behrend got on the board early as leadoff hitter Katie Whitby singled, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Allison Babish, and scored on an error to put Behrend up 1-0 after one inning. In the bottom of the second Amy Greene reached on an error and advanced to second on Lindsay Baughman's sacrifice bunt. Lia Sorce continued her hot hitting with a RBI single to put the Behrend Lions ahead 2-0 after two innings of play. Julie Koman had a shutout going until the fifth inning when Renee Schmidt led off the inning with a triple and scored on Jess Walters' sacrifice fly to make it a 2-1 game. Koman got out of the inning with the lead and retired six straight over the final two innings for the complete game victory. Behrend advances to the championship round on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. while Mt. Aloysius plays in tournament game nine versus Frostburg.
