The Penn State Behrend softball team dropped both games against
Frostburg State in an AMCC doubleheader at the Behrend softball
field on Saturday, May 1. The Frostburg State Bobcats took
game one 6-0 and rallied for a 3-1 win in game two.
Frostburg got on the board first in game one by scoring two runs in
the third inning. The Bobcats got two infield singles before
the runners scored on a wild pitch and a passed ball. The
Bobcats held that 2-0 lead until the top of the fifth when
Frostburg's Brooke Tapman walked and stole two bases before scoring
on an error to give the Bobcats a 3-0 advantage.
Frostburg iced the game with three more runs in the top of the
seventh, pushing the lead to 6-0, which would be the final score of
game one. Frostburg starting pitcher Megan Magee pitched a
1-hit complete game shutout, striking out ten Behrend Lions along
the way.
In game two Behrend got on the board first when Maddie Wieser (Erie/Collegiate Academy) used a sacrifice fly to drive in Beth Chidester (Wexford/North Allegheny) and put the Behrend Lions up 1-0 in the third inning.
Behrend starting pitcher Brooke Tarasovich (Bethel Park/Bethel Park) had it going early, keeping the Bobcats off the bases with excellent command of the strikezone. Tarasovich took the 1-0 lead into the seventh inning, but Frostburg would not go home easily. The Bobcats rallied for three runs, taking a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh. Frostburg pitcher Magee closed out her second complete game with a strikeout, her eleventh of game two and 21st strikeout on the day.
For Behrend, Tarasovich struck out six, allowing three runs on three hits in seven innings of work. Chidester was 2-for-3, scoring Behrend's only run of the game, while Morgan Griffin (Springboro/Conneaut Valley) and Kessi Osborne (Ellwood City/Riverside) were the other Behrend Lions with hits in the game.
Behrend drops to 17-21 overall and 8-12 in the AMCC. The blue and white are still alive for the #6 seed in the AMCC tournament depending upon results of AMCC games involving Pitt-Greensburg to be played on Wednesday, May 5 and Thursday, May 6.
