Lions Fall To Mt. Aloysius in AMCC Action

CRESSON, Pa. – Freshman Jess Neatrour hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to score the two runs Mt. Aloysius needed to defeat Penn State Behrend 4-3 in game one of an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) softball doubleheader on Sunday.

The Mounties (9-3, 4-0 AMCC) completed the sweep in game two, using the eight-run rule in the bottom of the fifth for an 11-3 victory.

Carrie Shevock was the winning pitcher, going the distance and giving up two earned runs and striking out three.

For the Lions (6-9, 3-3 AMCC), Kelsey Fuller went a perfect 2-for-2 in the opener and scored two out of the three runs.

After Mt. Aloysius grabbed a 1-0 edge in the third, Behrend put two runs up in the fifth to take the lead. Amy Greene singled and advanced to second on Samantha Grismore's sacrifice bunt. Fuller was hit by a pitch and Kayla Miller walked to load the bases. Marissa Lisanti also walked to send in Greene and Fuller stole home for a 2-0 lead.

The Mounties tied it in the sixth win a run and then relied on Neatrour to capture game one.

In game two, the Lions got two hits from Laura Spiridon and Chelsi Riordan but it wasn't enough to get the split. Three hits in the first inning got Behrend an early 2-0 lead in the opening inning. Spiridon and Riordan singled and Greene's doubled knocked both.

Mt. Aloysius responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning on six hits, including two doubles. The Mounties got three more runs in the fourth and four more in the bottom of the fifth for the final margin.

The Lions return to action tomorrow against Hilbert. The doubleheader starts at 3 p.m.
