Lions Fall to Ohio Northern in NCAA Tournament

ALMA, Mich. - The Penn State Behrend softball team fell to Ohio Northern 6-1 in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday afternoon.

The Polar Bears jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after one and never looked back en route to advancing in the winner's bracket.

The Lions (26-14) fell behind early, but were only trailing by three entering the sixth.  Callie Markovich (Edinboro, PA/Northwestern) led off the top half of the sixth with a single and came around to score.  Chelsi Riordan (Conneaut Lake, PA/Linesville) earned the RBI.  However, that was all the scoring the Behrend bats could get off Ohio Northern pitcher Dani Steepe who went the distance to pick up the win.

Kelsey Fuller (Albion, PA/Northwestern) led the Lions with two hits.

Behrend will be back in action tomorrow.  The Lions will face Denison at 12 p.m. in Alma, MI.
