Softball Splits AMCC Doubleheader With Mt. Aloysius
ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team split an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) doubleheader with Mt. Aloysius, defeating the Mounties 5-2 in game one and then falling 11-2 in the second game on Saturday afternoon.

What started off as a pitcher's duel in game one, was broken up by Maddie Mulig's (Shaler, PA/Shaler) three-run triple in the bottom of the fifth to open up the scoring and lead to a 5-2 victory in the opener for the Lions (11-11, 8-2  AMCC).

Kelsey Fuller (Albion, PA/Northwestern) hurled a complete game, striking out four and allowing two runs on seven hits. Amanda Krolczyk (Union City, PA/Fort LeBoeuf), who went 4-for-7 on the day, tallied a pair of hits in game one, while Shannon McDonnell (Fayston, VT/Harwood Union) joined Mulig in smacking a three bagger.

The Mounties scored first with a run in the third inning. Behrend took the lead in the fourth with a pair of runs to make it 2-1. Krolczyk started off with a single down left-field line and Mulig reached on a fielder's choice, before scoring on a single by Julie Luke (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf). Kelly Hedderick (Waterford, PA/Mercyhurst Prep), who got on base with a single, scored on an error for the second run of the inning.

It was in the following inning where Mulig tripled down the left-field line to score three runs to give Behrend a 5-1 lead with two frames left.

Mt. Aloysius responded in game two with 11 runs on 17 hits to earn the split. Heather Picard worked through seven innings and allowed one earned run for her sixth win. Out of those 17 hits were four doubles including two in the three-run seven inning.

Fuller and Krolczyk each had two hits for the Lions. Allaina Banta (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) and Sydney Sherrieb (Washington, PA/Trinity) each smacked a triple. Banta's hit led to her scoring in the first off Krolczyk's single up the middle for a 1-0 lead.

The same exact situation is how Behrend got its second run of the game in the fifth. Sherrieb tallied a triple and Fuller brought her home on an error.

Rachel Miller (North East, PA/North East) suffered the loss in game two, going three innings and giving up five runs before Hedderick took over.

The Lions return to action tomorrow against Washington & Jefferson. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
