Softball Secures Top Spot in AMCC
GREENSBURG, Pa. – In a tight race for first place in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, the Penn State Behrend softball team secured the top spot in the standings with a 14-3 and 12-0 win over Pitt-Greensburg in the conference finale on Saturday.

The Lions (18-14, 15-3 AMCC) will host the upcoming AMCC Tournament for the second time in three years thanks to a pair of wins over the Bobcats (11-19, 5-13 AMCC).

Down 1-0 in game one, Behrend scored three runs in the third and four in the fifth yet the big inning came in the sixth. The Lions recorded seven runs on five hits, starting with a single from Amanda Krolczyk (Union City, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) and walk by Maddie Mulig (Sharon, PA/Sharon).  Kelly Hedderick (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) stepped to the plate and smacked a triple for the first two runs.

The next big hit came from Kelsey Fuller (Albion, PA/Northwestern). Her three-run homer closed out the inning to make it 14-1. Pitt-Greensburg added two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin.

Rachel Miller (North East, PA/North East) pitched all six innings and struck out three to earn her eighth win of the season. Shannon McDonnell (Fayston, VT/Harwood Union) went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Sydney Sherrieb (Washington, PA/Trinity) had two hits, including a triple in the opener.

Fuller followed up her home run with a shut-out victory on the hill in game two. She pitched five innings and gave up just one hit and no runs, while fanning three. She also was a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.

The Lions scored 12 runs on 10 hits in the nightcap, using another seven-run inning to halt the game early.

Sherrieb finished with two doubles, while Hedderick drove in three runs on two hits.

Behrend returns to action tomorrow at Houghton. Games are at 5 and 7 p.m.
