Lions Take Down Houghton

HOUGHTON, NY – The Penn State Behrend softball team won a pair of non-conference games, defeating Houghton 1-0 and 9-8 in eight innings on Monday evening.

The Lions (20-14) won by one run in each contest to end the regular season on a nine-game winning streak.

In the opener, Kelsey Fuller (Albion, PA/Northwestern) had a lead-off double in the top of the third inning before scoring the only run on an RBI single by Amanda Krolczyk (Union City, PA/Fort LeBoeuf).

Rachel Miller (North East, PA/North East) started and got the win, while Kelly Hedderick (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) collected the save in a 1-0 victory.

Behrend scored three in the first inning for the early lead in game two. The Lions wouldn't score again until the sixth inning. After adding a run in the sixth and seventh, Behrend put up four runs in the eighth inning for the win.

Fuller and Sydney Sherrieb (Washington, PA/Trinity) had three hits each, while Allaina Banta (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) had a two-run single to finish the scoring in the eighth. Krolczyk pitched four innings of relief for the win in the circle.

The Lions will host the AMCC Championships this weekend. The double elimination tournament begins on Friday morning.
