Softball Earns ECAC Tournament Bid

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team received their seventh overall bid to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Tournament, announced on Monday afternoon.

The Lions earned the sixth seed and will travel to Reading, Pennsylvania to play third-seed Alvernia for a first-round game at 4 p.m. The winner will advance to the double-elimination tournament hosted by top-seed Misericordia over the weekend.

Behrend returns to the ECAC Tournament for the first time since the 2007 season in search for its first title. This year, the Lions won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) regular-season championship with a 15-3 mark to earn the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. The Lions fell to Pitt-Bradford and La Roche over the weekend in the AMCC Tournament.

Behrend (20-16) and Alvernia (21-14) will square off for the first time in program history. The Crusaders enter postseason after falling to Lebanon Valley 2-1 in the Commonwealth Conference Championships on Sunday.

The two other first-round games feature No. 7 Cabrini at No. 2 McDaniel and No. 5 Arcadia at No. 4 Neumann.
