Softball Posts 10-1 Win Over Rhode Island; Fall to Roger Williams

CLERMONT, Fl. – The Penn State Behrend softball team picked up their first win of the season with a 10-1 decision in five innings against Rhode Island on Tuesday. The Lions dropped the opener 11-1 to Roger Williams. 

Allania Banta (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) had a double with two runs in the nightcap, while Sarah Blagg (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) hit a triple, double and scored a run in the win. 

The Lions scored two runs in the second, one in the third, three in the fourth and capped it with four in the fifth inning to secure the victory. 

Leah Griffin (Springboro, PA/Conneaut Valley) tallied two hits, including a double, and scored two runs for Behrend in the win over Rhode Island. 

The Lions held Rhode Island to just one run in the third. The pitching of Rachel Miller (North East, PA/North East) completed the game, giving up just five hits and striking out 10 batters. 

In the opener, Alexa Bupp (Warren, PA/Warren) scored a run and Kelsey Heinrich (Brookville, PA/Brookville) tallied an RBI on her only hit for the lone run for Behrend. 

Roger Williams posted five runs in the second and third innings and finished it with a run in the fifth. 

The Lions return to action against Bethany and North Park.
