Softball Splits on Final Day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Penn State Behrend softball team split a pair of games on their final day of spring training down in Clermont, Florida.

The Lions (3-7) lost the opener 5-1 to Stockton and then defeated Hood 7-2 in the nightcap.

Holly Miller (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) went a perfect 2-for-2 with a sacrifice against Stockton while Alexa Bupp (Warren, PA/Warren) tallied the RBI in seventh inning. As a team, Behrend had three hits and two errors.

Kelly Hedderick (Wateford, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) pitched six innings and gave up three earned runs.

In game two, Amanda Krolczyk (Union City, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs to propel the Lions to their third win of the season.

Shannon McDonnell (Fayston, VT/Harwood Union) smacked a two-run homer in the first inning to get Behrend on the board. The Lions added one more run in the first to take the lead for good. Hood scored two runs in the second, but Behrend added three more in the same frame for a 6-2 lead.

The Lions would get one more run in the fourth for the final margin. Krolczyk also got the win on the hill for Behrend.

Rachel Miller (North East, PA/North East) added a 2-for-4 performance in game two.

The Lions return to action on Wednesday at home against Thiel. The doubleheader begins at 3:30 p.m.
