Lions Split with Mt. Aloysius in AMCC Game of the Week

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team went 1-1 against Mt. Aloysius on Saturday in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) doubleheader.

Game 1
* Behrend took on Mt. Aloysius in game one, winning 3-2 in nine innings
* Carson Hauser (Westfield, NY/Westfield Academy) had the game winning run in the ninth inning off an AJ Nichols (Pittsburgh, PA/Shaler) groundout to beat the Mounties
* The Lions came out winning in the bottom of the first, 1-0 off Samantha Manioci (Rochester, NY/Odyssey Academy) reaching first on an error sending Katie Gozzard (Pittsburgh, PA/Deer Lakes) home
* Mt. Aloysius caught up, tying the game in the second
* Behrend and the Mounties scored one run a piece in the seventh inning, taking the game to extra innings
* The Lions had the chance to win the game with a runner on third in the seventh with two outs but were not able to capitalize
* Hauser was put on second in the ninth because of the international tie-breaker rule
* Gozzard had a sac-bunt to advance Hauser to second, before Nichols groundout brought her home to win the game
* Nichols pitched a complete striking out a season-high 12 batters to break 350 career strikeouts

Game 2
* Behrend fell to the Mounties in game two, 5-2
* The Lions took the lead in the third inning, scoring two runs with bases loaded but leaving three on base
* Kaylene Chaffee (Venango, PA/Cambridge Springs) came in as a pinch hitter to score the second run off a single to right field
* The Mounties came back in the fifth inning to score four runs
* Behrend left 10 runners on base in game two
* Kylee Bundy (DuBois, PA/DuBois Area) had the other RBI for the Lions in game two, finishing it off a fielder's choice
* Brittney Williams (Atlantic, PA/Conneaut Lake) registered the loss for Behrend while Ashley Seamon (West Allegheny, PA/West Allegheny) and Nichols each faced batters in the game
