Lions Set to Host AMCC Tournament

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team earned the No. 1 seed and hosting rights for the 2019 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships this weekend, beginning Friday, May 3.

The Lions (25-9) will be making their 19th appearance in the tournament. Behrend was named the regular-season champions with a 16-2 conference mark to secure home-field advantage for the championships for the third year in a row.

The Lions received a bye and will face the winner of No. 4 Franciscan vs. No. 5 D'Youville at approximately 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon. The first game will feature No. 3 Pitt-Bradford and No. 6 Penn State Altoona at 10 a.m. The winner of the first game takes on No. 2 Mt. Aloysius in the third game of the day at 2 p.m.

The double-elimination tournament continues with five games on Saturday and a possible two games on Sunday if necessary. The champion will receive the AMCC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Behrend, who is going for its ninth conference championship, enters the tournament winning it's last six games. This season, the Lions went 8-2 against the field, sweeping Franciscan, Pitt-Bradford and Penn State Altoona.
