Schmidt Hits Walk-Off; Lions Sweep Pitt-Bradford

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team swept undefeated Pitt-Bradford in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) doubleheader on Wednesday. The Lions won game one in six innings, 10-2 and had a walk-off win in the second game, winning 8-7. Ashleigh Schmidt had the walk-off hit to secure the win.

Game 1
* In game one, Behrend took down the Panthers 10-2
* Pitt-Bradford had started the season outscoring opponents 40-4 before the Lions scored 10
* The Panthers pitcher Kerrigan Hoffman gave up four runs in the first inning tonight
* Before today, Hoffman had only given up three runs in 17 innings pitched
* Cami McNany (Emlenton, PA/Clarion-Allegheny Valley) went 3-for-3 against the Bobcats, totaling six hits in her last six at-bats
* Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) pitched a complete game for her third win of the season, tallying three strikeouts
* Jones had three hits including one triple in the opener
* Kylee Bundy (DuBois, PA) tallied two hits and a sacrifice fly with four RBIs

Game 2
* The Lions had a walk-off win in game two to take down the Panthers, 8-7
* Behrend had a 7-4 lead heading into the seventh inning when Bradford made a big run, scoring three to make it a tied ballgame
* The Lions started the bottom of the seventh with a double from Samantha Manioci (Rochester, NY/Odyssey Academy) to have the lead runner at second
* Angela Dale (Clinton, PA/West Allegheny) went in to pitch run for Manioci 
* Amy Nolte (Imperial, Pa/West Allegheny) hit a sacrifice bunt to send Dale to third base
* Ashleigh Schmidt (Sarver, PA/Freeport) hit the game-winning hit past the third baseman to send Dale home and win the game
* McIntire went 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Bundy went 2-for-3 with two RBIs 
* Kayla Lindberg (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) came in on the mound in the fourth inning in relief, tallying a win to improve to 3-2
