Behrend Softball Hosts Rochester in NCAA Regional

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team will host the 2021 NCAA Division III Regional on May 21-23. The fourth-seeded Lions (28-6) will face third-seeded Rochester (31-8) in the first round on Friday at 2 p.m.

St. John Fisher earned the top seed and will battle sixth-seed York (PA) to start the tournament on Friday morning at 10 a.m. Second-seed SUNY Geneseo will take on fifth-seed Stevens in game two, followed by Behrend and the Yellowjackets.  The tournament is double elimination with the winner advancing to the college national championships in Salem, Virginia May 27- June 1.

The Lions won their ninth Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) championship with 2-0 and 1-0 wins over Mt. Aloysius on Saturday. Behrend earned the conference's automatic bid to make its eighth appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Rochester earned its bid by winning the Liberty League championship last week. In the championship game, Rochester defeated Ithaca 6-1 to punch its ticket to the dance. The Yellowjackets are making their eighth NCAA playoff appearance since 2007, its first since 2016.

Game 3: #3 Rochester vs. #4 Penn State Behrend, 2 p.m.
Game 4: Loser of Game 1 vs. Loser of Game 2, 4 p.m.

Saturday, May 22
Game 5: Winner of Game 1 vs. Loser of Game 3, 10 a.m.
Game 6: Winner of Game 2 vs. Winner of Game 3, 12 p.m.

There are 48 teams that are competing in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship Tournament. There are eight six-team regional sites.  Forty-one conferences received automatic bids (Pool A) and one independent was selected for the championship from Pool B. The six remaining schools were selected on an at-large basis from the automatic qualifying conferences and the remaining independent institutions in Pool B.
