NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster softball team relied on pitching to defeat Penn State Behrend 7-2 and 8-0 in a non-conference doubleheader on Monday afternoon.
Game One: Westminster 7, Penn State Behrend 2
Records: Penn State Behrend (8-8), Westminster (14-2)
Noteworthy:
* The Titans had a four-hit, three-run third inning to take 4-0 lead
* Behrend got on the board in the top of the fourth on Jocelyn McNany's (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) first collegiate home run
* McNany tallied the lone hit and run with a solo long ball over the left-field fence to start the fourth inning
* Westminster answered with two runs on four hits for a 6-1 lead
* Both teams added a run in the seventh
* With bases loaded, Amy Nolte (Imperial, PA/West Allegheny) reached a fielder's choice to score M. McNany
* Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg), McNany and Ashleigh Schmidt (Sarver, PA/Freeport) tallied a pair of hits each
* Schmidt was the starter for the Lions and Jones came in relief after three innings

* Westminster posted their sixth straight win
* The Titans scored eight runs on 13 hits over five innings
* The Lions got hits from Jones and Sierra Williams (Grove City, PA/Lakeview)
* Williams smacked her second double of the season in the secodn inning
* Westminster relied on the pitching of Abbegail Froehlich in the win
* Alaina Wyckoff (Elma, NY/Iroquois) pitched four innings in the loss, allowing five earned runs
* Wyckoff threw 44 strikes in 68 pitches thrown
