Schmidt, Jones Named AMCC Athletes of the Week
Penn State Behrend senior Ashleigh Schmidt and sophomore Maria Jones were named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Softball Athletes of the Week, announced on Monday.
ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Behrend senior Ashleigh Schmidt (Sarver, PA/Freeport) and sophomore Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) were named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Softball Athletes of the Week, announced on Monday.
Schmidt was named Pitcher of the Week for going 2-0 in the circle this week, giving up only two earned runs and allowing eight hits. She posted a 1.17 ERA and threw a three-hit shutout in five innings against Pitt-Greensburg.
Jones earned Player of the Week for posting a team-best five hits with six runs and three RBIs in a 3-1 week for the Lions. Her best performance was a 3-for-4 showing with two runs and a double in a 4-2 win over Mt. Union. She tallied four runs, three RBIs and two hits in a pair of wins over Pitt-Greensburg Saturday.
The Lions return to action on Wednesday against Hilbert. The doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
