Behrend Softball Wins Eighth Straight; Lindberg Reaches 200 K's

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team took a pair of games from Hilbert 16-4 and 7-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Tuesday.

Noteworthy:

* Senior pitcher Kayla Lindberg (Austinburg, OH/Geneva) reached 200 career strikeouts in game two
* The Lions have now won eight in a row
* Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) went 7-for-8 on the day with five runs, four RBIS, a triple and a double

Game One: Penn State Behrend 16, Hilbert 4
Records: Penn State Behrend (14-7, 3-0 AMCC), Hilbert (6-5, 1-2 AMCC)

Key Moments: 

* The Behrend Lions did it all in the first game except for recording a double
* Behrend got a pair of triples, a home run, 13 RBIs, a sacrifice bunt, a sacrifice fly, two stolen bases and six walks
* Each team brought the bats early, but the Lions kept their bats hot for the final two innings to post a 12-run margin
* Jones went 4-for-4 with three runs, a triple, RBI and a stolen base
* With the scored tied at 4-all after one and a half innings, Behrend took the lead for good with a run in the second
* Jones hit a triple to center field to score Britney Shaw (St. Marys, PA/St. Marys) for the go-ahead run
* Five straight singles with one out showing in the bottom of the third led to seven runs for a 12-4 lead
* The four-run fourth inning saw Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) cranked out her fifth home run to score a pair of runs
* Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) did not allow an earned run in the eight Hilbert hit in the five innings of work for her eighth win

Game Two:  Penn State Behrend 7, Hilbert 0
Records: Penn State Behrend (15-7, 4-0 AMCC), Hilbert (6-6, 1-3 AMCC)   
 
Key Moments: 

* Wth the first two strikeouts of the game in the first inning, Lindberg reached the career milestone
* Lindberg also retired 15 of the last 16 batters in the game to post her third straight shutout of the season
* Lindberg finished with five strikeouts and giving up one hit in the complete game
* M. Jones had a 3-for-4 performance with a double, while McNany had a double and a triple for her two hits
* In the opening frame, M. Jones singles and advanced on an error by third base before scoring on the ensuing triple by McNany for a 1-0 lead
* Meghan Petitte (Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) put herself in a scoring position and got McNany home with a triple
* Sierra Williams (Grove City, PA/Grove City) hit a sacrifice fly to center field to send in Petitte to make it 3-0
* The Lions used five hits to score four runs in the bottom of the sixth
* Behrend had three singles and back-to-back doubles in the frame
* Jones doubled down left-field line to score three and then scored the final run with a McNany double
