Behrend Softball Captures 2024 AMCC Championship
The No. 1 Penn State Behrend softball team defeated No. 3 Mt. Aloysius 5-2 to capture the 2024 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship on Saturday morning.
ERIE, Pa. – The No. 1 Penn State Behrend softball team defeated No. 3 Mt. Aloysius 5-2 to capture the 2024 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship on Saturday morning.
Noteworthy:
* Sierra Williams (Grove City, PA/Lakeview), Alexia Brown (Wexford, PA/Pine-Richland) and Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) were named to the All-Tournament Team
* The Lions captured their 11th overall AMCC Championship
* Behrend earns the AMCC automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament
* The win marks the 17th straight for the Lions

Key Moments:
* Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the third to make the difference in the game
* In the third, Maria Jones (Wilcox, PA/Johnsonburg) singled to left field and Meghan Petitte (Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) placed a bunt down and advanced to second on the throw
* McNany came to the plate and on the first pitch hit a longball to left center to score three for a 4-0 lead
* Behrend got on the scoreboard first in the second inning and then added one more run in the fourth
* Emi Curcio (Perryopolis, PA/Frazier) had a sacrifice fly to score Williams to make it 1-0 in the first
* In the fourth, Brown smacked her first collegiate triple as the leadoff hitter, giving the Lions their 30th triple of the season and putting them in first in NCAA Division III statistics
* Brown came home on a sacrifice fly by Britney Shaw (St. Marys, PA/St. Marys)
* The Mounties scored their pair of runs in the fifth and it was the only inning where the Lions did not get a runner on base
* Tingley retired all three batters in five of the seven innings
* The sophomore pitcher struck out three in the complete game for her 18th win of the season
