Behrend Softball Picked Preseason Favorites; Petitte, Tingley Named Preseason Players of the Year
The Penn State Behrend softball team was voted to finish first in the 2025 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Coaches Poll, while junior utility player Meghan Petitte and junior pitcher Abby Tingley were chosen Preseason Players of the Year.
ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend softball team was voted to finish first in the 2025 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Coaches Poll, while junior utility player Meghan Petitte (Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) and junior pitcher Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) were chosen Preseason Players of the Year.
The Lions are projected to win their second straight conference title and 12th overall this season. Behrend finished 33-10 overall and 18-0 in AMCC play, defeating Mt. Aloysius in the AMCC Championships. The Lions advanced to the NCAA Tournament, falling to Case Western and Dominican (Ill.)
Petitte, the AMCC Preseason Player of the Year, is the reigning conference Player of the Year and a First Team selection. She also earned NFCA All-Region Second Team honors. Petitte finished first on the team in batting average (.433), hits (58) and RBIs (39). She was second in doubles (12), triples (5) and home runs (4), while registering 18 multiple-hit games and 12 multiple-RBI games. Petitte also tallied a .472 on-base percentage and a .687 slugging percentage in 42 games played.
Tingley is earning Preseason Pitcher of the Year for the first time in her career, after being voted AMCC Pitcher of the Year last season. Tingley landed on the NFCA All-Region Third Team, All-ECAC Team and the AMCC First Team. She posted an 18-5 overall record with a 9-0 mark in conference play. Tingley led in the circle with a 1.35 ERA. She pitched 134.1 innings and fanned 94 batters, only allowing 26 earned runs in 25 appearances.
Behrend opens the season over Spring Break in Florida, playing 10 games over five days. The Lions will host Mt. Union on March 19 in their home opener.
