ALFRED, NY – The Alfred softball team defeated Penn State Behrend 10-2 and 16-3, both in five innings, in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday.
Game One: Alfred 10, Penn State Behrend 2 (5)
Records: Penn State Behrend (5-10), Alfred (8-3)
Key Moments:
* Alfred got on the scoreboard early with six hits and three runs in the first frame
* Abigail Gatza hit a two-run homer for the quick 3-0 lead
* The Lions were able to score a pair in the second on consecutive wild pitches to narrow the lead to one
* The Saxons added a run in the third and tacked on six in the fourth thanks to a pair of homeruns to halt the game in five innings
* The lone hits came from Izabel Pozar (Flagstaff, AZ/Coconino) and Karma Malcolm (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk)
* Abby Tingley (Union City, PA/Union City) falls to 2-6 this season, allowing 10 earned runs and striking out one

Key Moments:
* Alfred kept the bats hot for game two, scoring 16 runs on 14 hits and forcing four Behrend errors
* The Saxons went ahead 7-0 after the first two innings of play
* The Lions got on the board in the third inning
* Chloe Nale (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) doubled and scored on a Jocelyn McNany (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley) hit to left field
* In the bottom of the frame, Alfred was able to score eight runs to extend the lead to 15-1
* Behrend added two runs in the fourth, starting the inning with a Malcolm walk before an Athena Iverson (Pittsburgh, PA/The Ellis School)
* With runners on first and third, Lexi Edgett (Frisco, TX/Lone Star) walked to load the bases for Myranda Findlay (Cambridge Springs, PA/Cambridge Springs)
* Findlay drove Malcolm in Hannah Smith's (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) fielder's choice sent home Iverson
* The Lions could not overcome the 12-run deficit in the fifth
* Lauren Rabanal (San Diego, CA/Westview) and McNany split time in the circle, pitching two innings each
