The 2008-09 men's and women's
basketball teams are nationally ranked among the top in Division
III hoops. Both teams have enjoyed successful seasons so far
and are looking to finish the season strong.
On the mens side, the defense has been the backbone of the
team. Their performance defensively has seen them climb to
fourth nationally holding teams to 58.7 ppg. The Behrend
Lions also have knocked down their free-throws shooting 76.9% from
the stripe which is good enough for 11 nationally. Along with
ranking nationally in these statistical categories, Behrend is atop
the charts in the AMCC in scoring defense and free-throw
percentage.
Adam Kaiser (Erie/Cathedral Prep) has
been on fire from the three-point line making 3.3 a game which sees
him rank seventeenth nationally and third in the AMCC.
Behrend (15-6, 11-3) currently leads the AMCC with four games
remaining and are on a six game winning streak.
Steals are hard to come by in a basketball game, but to the Behrend
women's team, they seem to come pretty easy. In Division III
basketball, they are currently number second in team steals at 17.0
spg. In the AMCC, they are ranked number one with almost
three more steals per game than any of the other AMCC opponents.
Rachel Richardson (Moon Township/Moon
Area) is averaging 3.6 spg which ranks her 27 nationally. The
Behrend Lions (11-9, 9-5) look for a strong performance to finish
off their season on a good note.
Both teams are on a three-game conference road streak beginning at
Medaille on Wednesday, February 11. They are back in action
at the Junker Center on February 21 when they tangle with
Pitt-Bradford.
