Women's Basketball Drops League Game to Frostburg State 75-61

With the win, Frostburg improves to 14-5 and 11-3 in the league, while the Behrend Lions fall to 9-8 overall and 7-6 in AMCC play.
In the first half, Penn State Behrend forward Christine Krankota's (Conneaut Lake/Conneaut Lake) jumper provided the Behrend Lions with a 9-4 edge at the 15:10 mark. Frostburg tied things up at 17 apiece with 9:29 to play before closing out the half on a 16-14 run to lead 33-31 entering halftime. Amy Oldach (Erie/Villa Maria) was huge throughout the first twenty minutes of action scoring 14 points and hauling down eight rebounds. Brittany James led the Bobcats with 12 points and eight rebounds.
During the second half, Frostburg State started to pull away with a 5-0 spurt opening the frame. A pair of made free throws by Kim Pol (Erie/Central) cut the lead to one point at the 14:14 mark before the Bobcats finished the half outscoring Behrend 35-22. Behrend was not able to force its usual amount of turnovers and finished with just seven steals, well below its average of nearly 16 steals per game entering the contest.
For the game, both teams made 40% from the field, while Frostburg held a 45-40 advantage on the glass and connected on six more free throws than Behrend. High scorer for the Behrend Lions was Oldach with an 18-point, 11-rebound effort. Pol added nine points, while freshman Holly Bourquin (Pittsburgh/Fox Chapel) finished with eight for Behrend. James led Frostburg with 26 points and 22 boards.
The Behrend women's basketball team is back in action on Wednesday, February 3 at home in the Junker Center for a 6:00 p.m. showdown with conference opponent Medaille. The men's and women's basketball games against Medaille on Wednesday will be televised by the Image Sports Network.
