Women's Basketball Awards Announced

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's basketball squad has announced their team and alumni awards for the 2010-11 season.

Senior guard Amy Oldach was chosen Most Valuable Player after earning All-Region honors and repeating as the AMCC Defensive Player of the Year. Brianna Bayly was selected as Most Improved Player, while Emily Detsch earned Rookie of the Year.  The newcomer started every game as a freshman and ranked second on the team in rebounds (5.1 rpg).  Junior guard Abby Henderson received the Herb Lauffer Sportsmanship and Leadership Award for her efforts on and off the court.

In addition to the team awards, there nine alumni sponsored awards the players can receive. Oldach earned the Marlesse Schlott Most Outstanding Offensive Player Award, the Anne Bonner Scholar-Athlete Award and the Michele Beisler-Darcie Bradley Leadership Award. 

Detsch also was presented with the Sue Holmes-Preston Rookie of the Year Award while Bayly received the Megan Musante Hustle Award and Michelle Benim Most Improved Player Award.

Junior Kim Pol was the first recipient of the Amy Oldach Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award and sophomore Holly Bourquin was given the Becky Reed Spark Plug Award for being the player other teammates would look to for emotional spunk and fire.

The Carrie Nestor Ambassador Award went to sophomore Aly Eagle. This award is given to the player that dedicates their time, energy and heart into make the basketball program better.
