ERIE, Pa. – Julia Myers (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) scored a career-high 26 points on 10-for-15 shooting from the floor, while grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds to lead Penn State Behrend over Pitt-Greensburg 82-75 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions (3-3, 2-0 AMCC) have been clutch from the free-throw line in the last two minutes of the game in the past two AMCC contests to remain undefeated in conference play. Behrend went 7-for-7 from the line with 38 seconds left, including a 6-for-6 showing from Brianna Bayly (Imperial, PA/West Allegheny) to preserve the win.
The Bobcats (2-3, 1-1 AMCC) who held a 30-28 lead at halftime, were outscored in the second half 54-45. Brittany Butterworth was Pitt-Greensburg's leading scorer with 18 points.
The Lions scored 25 points on 38 attempts from the charity stripe, making the final seven with under a minute a play to pull away from the Bobcats.
The second half was much like the first half. Many lead changes and only two points separated the two teams most of the time. Down by four in the first minute of the second half, Behrend reeled off a 22-4 run to take its largest lead at 62-46.
Natalie Corso (Moon Township, PA/Moon) drained a pair of triples and Emily Detsch (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) hit another behind the arc to help in the run. Meghan Hans stopped the bleeding with 9:01 left with three points.
Pitt-Greensburg slowly chipped away at the lead over the next nine minutes, getting within two at 72-70 with 1:56 left to play. Myers made her final field goal to make it 75-72 and then Behrend took over at the free-throw line while buckling on defense to get the seven-point victory.
The Lions return to action on Saturday against Mt. Aloysius, beginning at 2 p.m.
