Medaille Uses Strong First Half to Down Behrend

BUFFALO, NY – Joelle Pollak scored a game-high 25 points and added 10 rebounds for the double-double to lead Medaille over Penn State Behrend 69-51 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) women's basketball action on Thursday night.

The Mavericks (5-4, 3-1 AMCC) shot 6-for-8 from behind the arc in the first half to take a 42-24 lead that would not relinquish for the conference victory. Brittnee Perry was the second player in double figures for the hosts, recording 11 points and nine rebounds.

Julia Myers (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) led the Lions (3-5, 2-2 AMCC) with 12 points. Brianna Bayly (Imperial, PA/West Allegheny) chipped in 10 points.

Holly Bourquin (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) tallied the first two points and Ally Burke (Erie, PA/McDowell) scored the next six points to make it 8-4, but Medaille went on a 38-16 run over the next 16:11 of the first half to take a commanding lead.

Behrend only made eight more field goals in the first half behind two from Sarah Schweitzer (Bridgevile, PA/South Fayette) and three by Myers.

Each team registered 27 points in the second half. Bayly registered eight out of her 10 points in the final 20 minutes. The Mavericks continued to keep the Lions off the board and attempt a comeback while riding the lead built from the opening half.

The Lions return to action in three weeks on Sunday, December 30 at Hiram. Game time is 3 p.m.
