Lions Defeat D'Youville

BUFFALO, NY  – Julia Myers (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) and Holly Bourquin (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) each registered a team-high 14 points to lead Penn State Behrend past D'Youville 58-42 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) women's basketball action on Wednesday night.

The Lions (5-5, 3-2 AMCC) took the lead off the opening tip and never trailed to post their second straight victory. Behrend held the Spartans (3-8, 2-2 AMCC) to just 28 percent shooting from the floor, giving up the fewest points so far this season.

Bridget Andrews scored half of D'Youville's points with a game-high 23 points and four steals.

Myers tallied the Lions first six points of the game. Aly Eagle (Harmony, PA/Seneca Valley) followed with a three pointer while Emily Detsch (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) and Hannah Novotny (Cabot, PA/Knoch) each got a basket to complete the 13-4 run at the 12:03 mark of the first half.

Behrend kept the steady lead and got it to double digits on two occasions, heading into the locker rooms with a nine-point advantage after another triply from Eagle.

The second half resembled the first. The Lions allowed only six field goals by the Spartans. Behrend grabbed its largest lead at 58-37 off the final layup and field goal by Myers.

As a team, the Lions shot 41.7 percent from the field and caused 25 D'Youville turnovers.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday at Franciscan and then on Sunday at Penn State Altoona. Game times are at 1 p.m.
