Lions Win Fourth Straight

ALTOONA, Pa. – Julia Myers (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) and Emily Detsch (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) each scored a game-high 14 points to lead Penn State Behrend past Penn State Altoona 53-26 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) women's basketball action on Sunday.

Playing two conference games in two days, the Lions (7-5, 5-2 AMCC) clamped down on the defense to just allow an average of 28.5 points against Franciscan and Altoona to boost their record to 5-2 in the AMCC.

Behrend also had a season-best 21 steals on 29 turnovers with Ally Burke (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) making a season and game high of eight.

Altoona, who shot 19.6 percent from the field and only scored nine points in the first half, did not have one player in double figures. Moira Corrigan tallied a team-best eight points.

It took 3:21 after the opening whistle for the first field goal to be scored by Brianna Bayly (Imperial, PA/West Allegheny). After that, it only took three more minutes for Behrend to take a 10-4 lead.

Sarah Schweitzer (Bridgeville, PA/South Fayette) layup at the 8:59 mark gave the Lions a 10-point advantage that doubled by the end of the half.

The score tripled by the 16:21 mark of the second half thanks to an 11-0 run, including four by Myers and three by Burke and Holly Bourquin (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel).

Aly Eagle (Harmony, PA/Seneca Valley) contributed six rebounds, four points and three assists in the win.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday against La Roche at the Junker Center. Game time is 2 p.m.
