Lions Breeze Past Hilbert

ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team cruised to a 86-42 victory over visiting Hilbert in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Monday night.
The Lions (9-5, 7-3 AMCC) controlled the game from the start, forcing 20 turnovers and dominating the glass, 44-29.
Behrend got out to a fast start, holding a 16-2 advantage through the game's first five minutes. By the midway point the Lions had pushed the lead to 17. Over the final six minutes the two teams traded buckets but Behrend was ahead comfortably 45-18 at the break.
The Lions scorched the nets in the opening stanza, shooting 51.4 percent from the field. Holly Bourquin (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) led all scorers with 11 points through the first twenty.
With the second half underway, Behrend continued to dominate. Aly Eagle (Harmony, PA/Seneca Valley) netted four threes in the first seven minutes of the second half, including two in a row to cap a 23-11 run. The Lions' hot shooting continued especially from beyond the arc. Behrend drained a season-high 14 threes with nine coming in the second half.
With the win, the Lions improved to 9-5 and 7-2 in AMCC play. The 44 point victory was Behrend's largest margin of victory this season and pushed their winning streak to six.
Eagle led all scorers with 17 points. Bourquin finished with 13 while Ally Burke (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) chipped in 11.
The Lions will be back in action on Thursday at Pitt-Bradford. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
