Women's Basketball Keeps Streak Going

BRADFORD, Pa. – Three players scored in double figures, led by Julia Myers (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) with 14 points and 10 rebounds to help Penn State Behrend continue its win streak and defeat Pitt-Bradford 59-51 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) in women's basketball action on Thursday.

The Lions (10-5, 8-2 AMCC) used a 14-4 run to end the first half for a lead that would not relinquish for their seventh consecutive victory. With the win, Behrend women's basketball is one win away from reaching 500 program victories.

Senior Holly Bourquin (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) posted 10 point and two blocks, putting her six points away from hitting the 1,000-point plateau. Ally Burke (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) also scored 10 points.

After Behrend jumped out to an 11-2 lead, the Panthers (7-8, 5-4 AMCC) manage to cut that lead down to three behind three points from both Abby Brate and Allison Osborne, while holding the Lions scoreless for three minutes.

Eagle, who has been clutch from behind the arc, knocked down a pair combined with layups from Burke, Bourquin and Emily Detsch (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) to take a 13-point lead to close out the first half.

Myers tallied eight of her 14 points in the second half to keep the Lions on top.

Despite only scoring three points in the final four minutes, Behrend held off Pitt-Bradford and its comeback attempt to get its eighth conference win.

The Lions return to action on Saturday against Pitt-Greensburg. Game time is 2 p.m.
