Bourquin Tops 1,000 in Lions Loss
Senior forward Holly Bourqin scored her 1,000th career point but it was not enough as the Penn State Behrend women’s basketball team fell to Pitt-Greensburg 58-52 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
ERIE, Pa. – Senior forward Holly Bourquin (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) scored her 1,000th career point but it was not enough as the Penn State Behrend women's basketball team fell to Pitt-Greensburg 58-52 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions (10-6, 8-3 AMCC) struggled on the offensive end, shooting just 33.3 percent from the floor while making only one three.
Behrend was able to jump out to a 20-11 lead through the first 13 minutes. Bourquin and Julia Myers (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) combined for 11 of those points. The Bobcats were not going quietly though, ending the first half on a 16-6 run to take a one-point halftime lead.
With the second half underway, Pitt-Greensburg built on the momentum of the first half. The Bobcats clamped down defensively, allowing only four free throws through five minutes as they held an 11-point advantage by the 15:11 mark.
Despite the offensive woes, the Lions battled back. With less than two minutes to play, Aly Eagle (Harmony, PA/Seneca Valley) cashed in three free throws and suddenly Behrend was only down two. After Pitt-Greensburg answered with two free throws the lead was now four. The Lions were unable to score on their final attempts and fell for the first time since December 13.
Bourquin's 16 points made her the 10th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points. Myers tallied her ninth double-double of the season with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
Behrend will be back in action on Wednesday to host D'Youville at 6 p.m.
