HAMBURG, NY – The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team defeated Hilbert 62-52 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Wednesday night.
The Lions (14-9, 12-5 AMCC) pick up their final regular-season road victory behind a team-high 15 points from Ally Burke (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) and a career-high 15 rebounds by Holly Bourquin (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel).
Natalie Whitman led all scorers with 21 points for the Hawks.
The hosts took advantage of the home court in the opening nine minutes of the game, pulling out to a 16-4 lead. Behrend scored 13 unanswered points to take a one-point lead at 17-16 thanks to six points from Natalie Corso (Moon Township, PA/Moon).
Hilbert would regain the lead and take a three-point advantage into the second half.
The Lions did it once in the first half and they did it again in the second by erasing a double-digit deficit.
At the 9:18 mark, Emily Detsch (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) hit the three-pointer that changed the game into Behrend's favor for good. That triple and an Aly Eagle (Harmony, PA/Seneca Valley) layup put the Lions ahead by four at 49-45.
Eagle's pair of free throws with 4:42 remaining gave Behrend a double-digit lead that stayed thanks to Burke's final layup in the last 1:31 of play.
Eagle and Detsch finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively, to give the Lions three players in double figures.
Behrend returns to action on Saturday against Penn State Altoona at the Junker Center, beginning at 2 p.m.
