Women's Basketball Advances to AMCC Championship Game
Brianna Bayly and Holly Bourquin combined for 41 points and 22 rebounds to lead Penn State Behrend women’s basketball team past Medaille 60-52 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) semifinals on Friday night.
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Brianna Bayly (Imperial, PA/West Allegheny) and Holly Bourquin (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) combined for 41 points and 22 rebounds to lead Penn State Behrend women's basketball team past Medaille 60-52 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) semifinals on Friday night.
Bayly scored a game-high 21 points, while Bourquin had a double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds to help the Lions (17-9) advance to the AMCC Championships against La Roche, a 76-46 winner over Mt. Aloysius in the first semifinal tonight. The title match is slated for tomorrow at 3 p.m.
Joelle Pollak was one of three players in double figures for the Mavericks with 18 points.
In the third meeting between the two teams this season, Behrend got the last say after falling to Medaille in the semifinals for the last two years.
With a close first 10 minutes of the game, Bourquin put the Lions ahead for good as early as the 11:33 mark in the opening half. Her layup made it 13-12 lead, a lead that grew to 33-21 by halftime. Emily Detsch (St. Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) drained two triples at the end of the half to keep the double-digit advantage.
An 8-2 run to start the second half gave Behrend its largest lead of the game at 41-23 after Bayly completed a three-point play.
From that point, the Mavericks had a 15-5 spark to pull within eight points. That would be the closest Medaille would get to the Lions in the five minutes.
Similar to the first round game against Pitt-Greensburg, Bayly was flawless form the line going 6-for-6 to stop the Mavericks chance of coming back.
Bourquin's 15 rebound tied a career high. Detsch was also in double figures with 13 points for Behrend.
