First-Half Lifts Pitt-Bradford Past Lions

BRADFORD, Pa. – The Pitt-Bradford women's basketball team only committed seven turnovers and shot 54.8 percent from the floor in the decisive first half to defeat Penn State Behrend 65-38 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Wednesday night.

The Panthers (7-4, 3-1 AMCC) held a 37-13 advantage at the break, while holding the Lions (1-9, 0-4 AMCC) to 29.4 percent shooting from the field in the first half to build a lead that would hold up for the final 20 minutes.

Alicia Kimmel had a game-high 15 points and six rebounds, and teammate Kaserra Owens tallied 11 points in the win.

Natalie Corso (Moon Township, PA/Moon) and Brittany Kiger (White Oak, PA/McKeesport) each posted nine points for Behrend. Kiger also added a game-high 13 rebounds.

Pitt-Bradford scored 30 of its 65 points off turnovers, making the difference in this conference match up.

Kimmel scored six of her 15 points in just two minutes to start the first half, giving the Panthers a 12-5 lead at the 14:19 mark.

Pitt-Bradford finished the half with a 25-8 run for a 24-point cushion.

The Lions chalked up 25 points in the second half to the Panthers 28, but could not overcome the first-half deficit.

Behrend returns to action on Saturday against Franciscan in AMCC action. Game time is 4 p.m.
