Bethany Outlasts Women's Basketball

BETHANY, W. Va. – Erika Woll (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) and Fontaine Glenn (West Sunbury, PA/Moniteau) each scored season highs but the Penn State Behrend women's basketball team fell to Bethany 84-71 in non-conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night.

Woll went 6-for-9 from the field for 14 points and five rebounds, while Glenn added 13 points, six rebounds and five steals for the Lions (0-8). Ally Burke (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) led all scorers with 24 points. She was a perfect 9-for-9 from the line, helping Behrend record as season-best 94.7 percent from the charity stripe.

The Bison (5-3) had four players in double figures and shot 50 percent from the floor to earn their fifth win of the season. Kelsesa Daugherty posted a team best with 15 points and seven rebounds. Mikyla Tipton added 13 and Gabrielle Naples came off the bench to score 12.

In the first half, the Lions held a lead until the 12:54 mark thanks to a pair of field goals by Glenn and a triple from Maggie Lawrence (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) to make it 13-12. Bethany used a run-and-gun offense to pull away from Behrend in the second part of the opening half.

The Bison used a 35-17 run to take a commanding lead at intermission. At the break, Burke had 13 points and Glenn tallied eight of her 13.

Behrend outscored Bethany in the second half 41-37 in the second half, but could not overcome the first-half deficit of 17 points. The Lions gave the Bison a taste of their own medicine with a 16-7 spurt to end the game and end with a 13-point margin.

In addition to having the best performances from the line, Behrend also had a season best from the field with 44.6 percent shooting.

Brittany Kiger (White Oak, PA/McKeesport) chipped in with nine points and two assists.

The Lions return to action on Saturday against Penn State Altoona in the Junker Center. Tip-off is 2 p.m.
