Women's Basketball Downs Mt. Aloysius in AMCC Action

ERIE, Pa. – Ally Burke (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) registered her fourth 30-point game and shot 57.9 percent from the floor to help the Penn State Behrend women's basketball team past Mt. Aloysius 71-61 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.

The Lions (2-13, 2-6 AMCC) picked up their second conference win this season behind Burke's efforts and a season-best 17 points from Fontaine Glenn (West Sunbury, PA/Moniteau). The team grabbed a season-high 49 rebounds thanks to a career-high 12 boards from Maggie Lawrence (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek).

Abby Kulick led the Mounties (6-7, 3-5 AMCC) with 13 points and Olivia Rupp added 12 points.

Similar to Behrend's win against Franciscan this year, the Lions were able to take a lead into the second half and keep it for the AMCC victory.

Three points was the largest lead by either team in the first 15 minutes of the game. Behrend used a 11-0 run sparked by a triple from Erika Woll (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst).  Burke followed with a layup and Glenn's jump shot put the Lions ahead by five points after being down by two.

Rachael Razzano (New Castle, PA/New Castle) made a bucket and Burke had a second-chance jumper fall for a 29-20 lead, forcing a Mt. Aloysius timeout.  Glenn's traditional three-point play gave Behrend a double-digit lead at 33-23, but the Mounties closed the half with four points by Haley Bender to make it a seven-point game after the first 20 minutes.

The Lions never surrendered their lead in the second half although Mt. Aloysius made valiant efforts to overcome the deficit. The Mounties got within one point at 46-45 at the 13:31 mark.

Behrend went on another big 10-1 stretch to build a lead that would stand for the remaining 7:45 of the game.

Woll almost completed the double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds. Burke also chipped in eight rebounds, five assists and four steals.

The Lions return to action on Monday at Hilbert. Game time is 6 p.m.
