Balanced Effort Leads La Roche Past Women's Basketball

ERIE, Pa. – The La Roche women's basketball team keeps their undefeated streak alive in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) with a 66-54 victory over Penn State Behrend on Saturday afternoon.

The win marks the Redhawks (14-4, 11-0 AMCC) seventh straight overall and second over the Lions (4-14, 4-7 AMCC) this season. La Roche continues its dominance in the conference thanks to a pair of double-doubles from McKenzie O'Donnell and Danasha Harris. O'Donnell led with 17 points, 13 rebounds, five blocks and two steals.

Once again, Behrend had the leading scorer in Ally Burke (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst). The senior guard registered 19 points, nine rebounds and two assists.

The Lions only surrendered the lead twice in the first 14 minutes of the game. Burke's three pointer and then ensuing layup kept Behrend ahead by three points at 13-10. The lead grew to six points thanks to a Sadie Zielinski (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) triple and a jumper by Fontaine Glenn (West Sunbury, PA/Moniteau).

A quick 6-0 spurt by the Redhawks evened the score at 20-all. Behrend tied it up for the last time at 23-all with another three-pointer by Zielinski.

La Roche answered with 6-for-7 shooting from the field to produce a 14-4 run to end the half with a 10-point advantage at 37-27.

The Redhawks relinquished their double-digit lead early in the second half, but were able to get back-to-back jumpers from Sabrina McLin and LaShauna Brothers to stay ahead for good.

Harris crashed the boards with a game-high 16 rebounds for La Roche, however, Maggie Lawrence (Harborcreek, PA/Harbor Creek) was not far behind with a team-best 11 rebounds for the Lions.

Behrend returns to action on Wednesday against Pitt-Bradford. Game time is 6 p.m.
