Lions Down Mt. Aloysius
Rachael Razzano posted a career-high 15 points and Sadie Zielinski tied her best with 15 points, marking her season high to help the Penn State Behrend defeat Mt. Aloysius 67-50 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.
ERIE, Pa. – Rachael Razzano (New Castle, PA/New Castle) posted a career-high 15 points and Sadie Zielinski (Erie, PA/Harbor Creek) tied her best with 15 points, marking her season high to help the Penn State Behrend defeat Mt. Aloysius 67-50 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action on Saturday.
The Lions (13-10, 11-5 AMCC) had four players in double figures for the third time this season to secure at least the No. 3 seed for the upcoming AMCC playoffs. Dani Reinwald (Clymer, NY/Clymer Central) had 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Heidi Langhorst (Corapolis, PA/Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) added 10 points in the win.
Alexia Servello had a team-best 13 points for the Mounties (10-13, 7-9 AMCC).
Behrend saved the best quarter for last, outscoring Mt. Aloysius 22-8 and shooting 53 percent from the floor in the fourth to avenge an eight-point loss to the Mounties earlier this season.
Down by as many as seven in the second quarter, the Lions used a 10-2 run to take the a 28-27 lead after a pair of good free throws by Fontaine Glenn (West Sunbury, PA/Moniteau) with four minutes before half. Mt. Aloysius went ahead again by three this time, but Zielinski made two from the charity stripe and Langhorst got the last bucket with nine seconds showing for a 34-33 at the break.
In a low-scoring third quarter the Lions never trailed and took a 45-42 lead into the final period. Reinwald, show scored six of her 10 points in the fourth quarter, started with the first four points, followed by an Erika Woll (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst) layup and a Razzano three-pointer for Behrend's first double-digit lead at 54-42.
The Lions shot 92.3 percent from the free-throw line (12-for-13) and 41 percent from the floor for the game.
Woll finished with nine points and eight rebounds, while matching her career high with seven assists.
Behrend returns to action on Wednesday at Hilbert. Game time is 8 p.m.
