ERIE, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend women's basketball team earned the program's 11th bid to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Tournament, announced on Monday.
The eighth-seeded Lions (15-11), who are making their 14th overall postseason appearance, will travel to No. 1 Washington & Jefferson (22-5) in first-round action on Wednesday night. Time of the game is 7 p.m.
Behrend advanced to the ECAC South Semifinals in 2011 and 2012, but fell short of their third ECAC title. The Lions won the championship in 1991-92 and in 1995-96.
Behrend and Washington & Jefferson last met in the first round of the ECAC South Region Tournament in 2013. The Presidents pulled out a 62-59 win to improve their all-time record to 17-15 over the Lions.
The Lions are coming off a 60-52 loss in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) semifinals to Pitt-Bradford, while the Presidents fell in their PAC championship game to Thomas More, 93-74.
The winner will advance to the highest-remaining seed this weekend in hopes for a chance at the ECAC South Region title.
